84, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away Thursday August 7, 2008, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late William and Mary (Chute) Bligh. Harley was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, Maizie (Foster) Bligh; daughters, Orlene Bligh-Coldwell (Scott Coldwell), Kentville; Mary Dene Bligh-Cain; granddaughters, Brittany & Abigail Cain, Fredericton, N.B.; sister-in-law, Beatrice Bligh, Fundy Villa, Berwick; numerous nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Orlay, Kenneth & Lester Bligh; sister, Violet Jacques. Harley worked in his younger years at the family run business, Bligh's Theatre, Berwick and was educated at Horton Academy (Acadia University), Wolfville, receiving his business degree. After his education he went to work at Sears Order Office in Berwick, which he operated for 37 years until his retirement. Over the years in business he owned and operated a shoe store, a variety store and was the owner of a business complex that housed several commercial and apartment rentals. Harley loved his home town of Berwick, and was a long-time ambassador for recruiting new Berwickians and promoted the town at every opportunity. Harley contributed to the community in many ways and was a member of Valley Lodge # 90, A.F. & A.M., Berwick and was a 50 year jewel holder. He was also a past member of the Berwick Gala Days Committee, the Arena Committee, the Board of Trade, and was a Trustee of the Berwick Cemetery Company. Harley had a love of people and always had time to extend his kindness and passion for life to family, friends and often complete strangers. He will be missed by all the numerous people he has touched. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday August 11, in the Berwick United Church, 240 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Ivan Norton officiating, with a reception immediately following in Christ Anglican Hall. Burial in the Berwick Cemetery. No flowers by request, donations in his memory may be made to the Berwick Food Bank, P.O. Box 727, Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, or to a charity of your choice.
