23, Halifax, formerly of New Minas & Aylesford, passed away suddenly as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Alberta, on Friday October 31, 2008. Born in Kentville, he was a son of John Robert "Bob" Antonick, New Minas and Rebecca Ann "Becky" Ritchie, Aylesford. Joey was a graduate of West Kings District High School, Auburn and had also received his Electrical-Construction-Industrial Certificate at the N.S.C.C., Kingstec Campus, Kentville. He had been employed with Newman Electric, Halifax, prior to his recent move to Alberta. Joey played a "kickass" guitar and was a lead vocalist. His high school band was "Speedbump" , while his two most recent bands in Halifax were "Hillside" and "With Bated Breath". His other passion was his sailboat, "Iskra". Surviving are his father, Bob Antonick, New Minas; mother, Becky Ritchie, Aylesford; & step-dad, Arthur "Bub" Backman, Chester; brother, Jimmy Markey, Chester; sisters, Amy & Meg Antonick, New Minas; half-sisters, Robyn Antonick, Newfoundland; Christina Antonick, Saltspring Island, B.C.; Kindred Antonick, Vancouver, B.C.; step-brother, Brian Backman, Halifax; step-sisters, Nicolle Backman-Taylor, Shelburne; Kristal Backman, Halifax; grandparents, Arthur (Bev) Ritchie, Auburn; Betty Ritchie, Greenwood; Peter Antonick, Dartmouth; extra special aunt & uncle, Glenn & Barbara Smith, Dartmouth; numerous aunts, uncles & cousins, as well as a group of amazing friends. He was predeceased by grandmother, Peggy Antonick. There will be no visitation. A service in celebration of Joey's life, followed by a reception, will take place 2 p.m. Saturday November 8, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Mr. Kevin Carver will officiate (all who wish to will be welcome to come forward and speak). Donations in his memory may be made to West Kings District High School Music Department c/o the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board Education Foundation.
