87, Berwick, Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lockerbie, Scotland, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Kerr) Beattie. Tom was a veteran of the Second World War and was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch # 69. He worked most of his life as a farmer and also a few years with the Berwick Bakery and at Scotian Gold. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis (Algee) Potter-Manning-Beattie; daughters, JoAnne (Harley) Stoddart; Gayle Power; step-sons, Ronald Potter; Robert (Mary) Potter; Perry Potter; step-daughters, Sharon (Bill) Claridge; Susanne (companion, Allan McMahone); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Lee; Janet (Holmes) Morse; sisters-in-law, Joyce Beattie; Freda Beattie. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, James Kerr in infancy; James & George Beattie; brother-in-law, Kenneth Lee. Tom loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great passion for horses. For the last four years Tom and Phyllis faithfully attended the Tuesday night "Jams" at the Windermere Hall, where they had front row reserved seats. Visitation for Tom will take place 2-4 p.m., Tuesday in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the Royal Canadian Legion and Funeral Service will take place 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 10. Rev. Linda Winton officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Windermere Community Hall or to any charity.
