Obituary of Richard Carlyle MacEwan

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard "Digger" Carlyle MacEwan, 87 of Falmouth died November 26, 2017 in the Windsor Elms Village. Born in Westville, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gertrude (Joudrey) MacEwan. As a teenager, Digger became interested in the world of boxing. This sport took him to various parts of Ontario, with several matches leading into his 20s. Digger's career in law enforcement began at the young age of 19 in Westville, where he became one of the youngest Chiefs of Police in Canada. He then went on to work for CNR Police where he stayed until his retirement. During these years he worked in many parts of the province, as well as Newfoundland and New Brunswick. Upon retirement, Digger and his wife, Doreen moved to Amherst. He spent his time golfing, relaxing at the family cottage and spending time with his beloved family. Anyone who knew Digger would remember his quick wit, love of a good prank and making others laugh. He was a kind and loving man whose family always came first. He is survived by his daughters Lori Metzler (Todd) of Dartmouth; Sharon Gates of Truro granddaughter Kim Tanner (Kathleen) of Bedford; sisters June Thompson; Trixie Keough; special sisters-in-law Shirley MacEwan; Marg Chittick; brothers Nelson; Elwood and Mike (Judy). Digger also has many special nieces and nephews, too many to name. Besides his parents, Digger was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (MacLaren) and second wife, Doreen (Cormier); sisters Jean MacDonald; Muriel Gollan and Brownie Urquhart; brothers Allister; Harry; Chester; Robert; Percy and John. A visitation will take place on Monday December 4, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, with a funeral service to follow immediately after. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr. (902-679-2822). The family would like to thank the staff of Windsor Elms Village for their nine years.
