Dick Brown

Obituary of Dick Brown

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Dick” Brown, 61 of Centreville on March 13, 2025. Born in Kentville on October 24, 1963, Dick was the beloved son of Vivian Brown (Hazel) and the late Hugh Brown.

Dick, as he was affectionately known, was a soft-hearted man with an easy-going spirit. You would often see him with a smile on his face and he possessed a rare gift to get along with just about anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Dick’s journey here on earth was one marked by love and compassion as he had so many people who truly cared for him.

Dick enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He also loved to play sports, from playing sports himself in his younger years, coaching his kid’s sports teams to relaxing and watching games on TV. Dick loved Campfires and hosting BBQs for his family and friends while sipping on a nice cold refreshing beer. He enjoyed playing darts, washer toss, cards, especially poker and a good game of crib, but above all, Dick appreciated the time he got to spend with his family.

“He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend”

Dick owned and operated a hog farm before moving on to working for Michelin then for Midland as a long-haul trucker and then finally owning Brown’s Convenience Store in Centreville. He was also a proud member of the Kentville Legion Branch #006.

Dick’s memory lives on through his cherished wife, Nancy Brown; daughters, Sarah Brown and Christina (Ryan) Joules; son, Nick Brown; stepchildren, Nicole (Shawn) Fletcher and Kyle Redden; grandchildren, Elizabeth Joules, Alan Joules, Kinsley Fletcher and Hudson Fletcher; his mother, Vivian Brown as well as his brother, Tim Brown.

Dick was predeceased by his father, Hugh Brown.

A Legion Service as well as a Celebration of Life will take place in the Royal Canadian Legion Kentville Branch #006 on Wednesday March 26, 2025 at 11:00 am with a burial to follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery.
