Christine Pyne

Obituary of Christine Olive Pyne

Christine “Chris” Olive (Hersey) Pyne, 73 of Digby passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Digby, Chris was the daughter of the late Robert and Hilda (Scott) Hersey.

Chris was predeceased by her husband, Dean R. Pyne. Chris is survived by daughters, Shelley Pyne, Digby and Krista (James) Tidd of Barton, Digby Co.; beloved grandson Sonny (Hayley) Gillis, Dartmouth, NS; brothers, Roy Hersey and Robert (Christina) Hersey both of Digby and sister Elaine (Greg) Turner of Smith’s Cove, Digby Co; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Chris lived in Digby most of her life and, briefly, in Kingston, NS. She enjoyed working outside the home in many places, including Digby General Hospital, Tideview Terrace, Dollarama, Mountain Gap Inn and the Kingfisher.

We will forever miss Chris’ beautiful smile, laughter, sense of humour and quick wit. She enjoyed reading non-fiction, journaling, and a good game of crib, 45s or Yahtzee. If her favourite artist Johnny Reid was singing on TV, CD or live, the dance steps came naturally. She personally met Johnny on more than one occasion managing to get a few kisses and hugs. She always enjoyed family gatherings, especially birthdays, picnics and rappie pie night at Church Street. Nana’s pride and joy was her grandson, Sonny. She enjoyed watching him grow up, followed his adventures in hockey and was especially proud when he became her ‘sailor boy’ in the Navy.  In recent years during her time at Tideview, family and friends always loved to see Chris’ face light up with excitement when they visited.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held at Serenity Funeral Chapel with a funeral service to follow later in the spring at Trinity Anglican Church, Digby. Donations in Chris’ memory may be made to TLC Animal Shelter, Digby, Friends of Ferals, Digby or charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, NS B4R 1B9.

“If Roses Grow in Heaven” – Dolores M. Garcia

If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
