Lloyd MacHattie

Obituary of Lloyd Polson MacHattie

MacHattie, Lloyd Polson, 72, of Porter's Lake. It is with heartfelt sadness that Lloyd's family announce the sudden passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother at Dartmouth General Hospital on February 17, 2025. Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Stubbert and Kathryn (Polson) MacHattie.

Lloyd grew up in Argyle, Nova Scotia with his parents and two sisters, and was taught one year by his mother Kathryn as she took him along with her to work each day. He enjoyed playing piano and listening to music. He graduated high school and went on to Vocational School where he learned diesel marine mechanics. He was employed by the Federal Government of Canada working at the Halifax Dockyards where he gave 35 years of service before retiring in 2010.

Lloyd was a devoted husband to Judith (Hebb) MacHattie and proud father to his two sons; Devin and Jordan. He enjoyed driving his sons and their friends to baseball and hockey games. Lloyd at an early age spent many summers travelling across Canada and USA with his parents and that love continued when he had his own family camping every summer with his family in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and all across Atlantic Canada. He enjoyed shearing Christmas trees every November with his father Stubbert in Goshen. Lloyd also loved doing maintenance on his family's vehicles. And the constant upkeep of the household.

Lloyd was a great storyteller and talker. He enjoyed weekly coffee meetups and monthly lunches with his friends. He loved watching his granddaughters Ruby and Primrose play soccer who they called him "Pop Pop". He had fond memories of his first dog, Peter who waited patiently at the door for Lloyd to return each day. Lloyd and Judy had 4 family dogs together over the years and enjoyed going on walks on the Myra Road and beyond with their golden retriever Koda. He wore a fitness watch for many years and was proud of how many steps he took on a daily basis. And wasn't shy to tell anyone he met how much he walked (21,151km over the last 6 years).

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy (Hebb); sons Devin and Jordan (Stephanie) and their children (Ruby and Primrose); and Lloyd’s sisters; Roselyn McDermott and her children (Scott and Stephanie), and sister Gina (Jim) Barry.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at the Dartmouth General for Lloyds exceptional care, support and compassion.

And much gratitude for all the family, friends, and neighbors who called or visited. Dawn and Tim and boys and Garth and boys who lent a hand to help Judy and the boys out. And special mention to Cathy and Stephen who introduced Lloyd to Judy 43 years ago and remained close and dear friends and have been so helpful this past week.

Cremation has taken place, no visitation or funeral service as per his wishes. Donations in Lloyd's name may be made to any charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Drive, Coldbrook, NS B4R 1B9.
