Sheila Theriault

Obituary of Sheila Ruth Theriault

It is with profound sadness that the family of Sheila Ruth Theriault announce her passing on January 18, 2025 in the Digby General Hospital. She had endured a ten-year battle with cancer. Sheila was born at home to Lovitt and Mary (Stanton) Theriault at Tiddville, Digby Co., Nova Scotia on November 23, 1944.

Sheila is survived by her sisters, Janet (Bruce) Coles of Rothesay, NB and Elizabeth (Gary) Morrison of Saskatoon, SK.; nephew, Dr. Chad (Jodi) Coles of Halifax, NS; niece Shari (Heath) Foley of Rothesay NB; nephew Jeramiah (Sherri Diacon) Morrison of Prince Albert, SK,; niece Jess Morrison and her partner Sarah Monaco of Chilliwack, BC. as well as great nieces and great nephews, Oliver Foley, Chloe Coles, Karl Brendzy, Rylan Morrison, Evan Morrison and Lukas Morrison.

Sheila was predeceased by her loving parents, Lovitt and Mary Theriault.

Like her mother, Sheila had the gift of music and played the piano by ear. If someone could hum a song from the fifties or sixties, she would soon be playing along with them. She contributed to her church by her piano playing and teaching Sunday School. Her greatest passion in life was the study of genealogy. With her seemingly photographic memory she could quote names, birth and death dates, and trivia going back for generations. She spent many hours searching for headstones in graveyards to find the correct dates of birth and death of those she was researching. Countless trips were made to the Admiral Digby Museum checking old records and many trips to Halifax to research in the archives as well. She would often work tirelessly to help others get missing information on their ancestors. The family would like to thank those who helped Sheila as she struggled to survive during her last few years.

Sheila’s memorial service will be held on May 3, 2025 at Livewell Community Church in Tiddville at 2pm. Internment of her ashes will follow at East Ferry Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or Livewell Community Church in lieu of flowers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
